چکیده

Ordered mesoporous Fe(3)O(4) with crystalline walls (inverse spinel structure) has been synthesized for the first time, representing to the best of our knowledge, the first synthesis of a reduced mesoporous iron oxide. Synthesis was achieved by reducing ordered mesoporous alpha-Fe(2)O(3) (corundum structure) to Fe(3)O(4) spinel then to gamma-Fe(2)O(3) by oxidation, while preserving the ordered mesostructure and crystalline walls throughout. Such solid/solid transformations demonstrate the stability of the mesostructure to structural phase transitions from the hexagonal close packed oxide subarray of alpha-Fe(2)O(3) (corundum structure) to the cubic close packed subarray of Fe(3)O(4) spinel and gamma-Fe(2)O(3). Preliminary magnetic measurements reveal that the spins in both Fe(3)O(4) and gamma-Fe(2)O(3) are frozen at 295 K, despite the wall thickness (7 nm) being less than the lower limit for such freezing in corresponding nanoparticles (>8 nm).

Magnetic γ-Fe2O3, Fe3O4, and Fe nanoparticles confined within ordered mesoporous carbons as efficient microwave absorbers.

A series of magnetic γ-Fe2O3, Fe3O4, and Fe nanoparticles have been successfully introduced into the mesochannels of ordered mesoporous carbons by the combination of the impregnation of iron salt precursors and then in situ hydrolysis, pyrolysis and reduction processes. The magnetic nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed and confined within the mesopores of mesoporous carbons. Although the as-pr...

Pair distribution function (PDF) analysis of mesoporous α-Fe2O3 and Cr2O3.

We have measured atomic pair distribution functions of novel mesoporous metal oxides, α-Fe2O3 and Cr2O3. These have an ordered pore mosaic as well as crystalline structure within the pore walls, making them an interesting class of materials to characterise. Comparison of "bulk" and mesoporous data sets has allowed an estimate of long range structural coherence to be derived; ≈125 Å and ≈290 Å f...

Synthesis and Characterization of Mesostructured Tin Oxide with Crystalline Walls

Shortly after the original synthesis of silica-based mesoporous molecular materials (MCM-41) with uniformly sized pores,1,2 the supramolecular templating approach was extended to the synthesis of non-siliceous mesoporousmaterials based onboth transition andmaingroup metal oxides because of their potential application as solid electrolyte devices, high surface area catalysts, and sorbents, as we...

Large-scale synthesis of single-crystalline iron oxide magnetic nanorings.

We present an innovative approach to the production of single-crystal iron oxide nanorings employing a solution-based route. Single-crystal hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) nanorings were synthesized using a double anion-assisted hydrothermal method (involving phosphate and sulfate ions), which can be divided into two stages: (1) formation of capsule-shaped alpha-Fe2O3 nanoparticles and (2) preferential ...

Synthesis of thermally stable mesoporous cerium oxide with nanocrystalline frameworks using mesoporous silica templates.

Highly ordered mesoporous cerium oxides, composed of nanocrystalline pore walls and exhibiting high thermal stability even at 973 K, were synthesized using mesoporous silica templates with hexagonal p6mm and cubic Ia3d symmetries.
